The annual competition of making science projects was held under the Directorate of Science and Technology Pakistan in Nishtar Hall Peshawar in the month of March 2010. The participants across the NWFP participated in that competition. It was a tough contest among 2500 projects, and after careful deliberation just 50 projects could qualify for the next round only because of their excellence and novelty. Forty projects were screened out at this level and only 10 projects were selected for the final round. By the grace of ALLAH the young scientists of Modernage qualified for the final stage of the competition. The students who participated in the event were Master Aftab Alam and Master Waqar Ali. Their in charge was our brilliant teacher Mr. Muhammad Nadeem. The novel and unique theme of their project had fascinated the judges. The main theme of this project was based on brain’s electric activity (EEG). To save humanity from slow poison (smoking), they conducted research work for human welfare on the topic of “BAD EFFECTS OF SMOKING ON HUMAN LIFE”. They had conducted many surveys and made diversified categories regarding age, profession, and sex. After collection of data they evaluated it on scientific basis. They used the electro-encephalogram (EEG) apparatus to collect the signals of smokers and non-smokers. Moreover, they worked on “ALPHA” signals to check the effects of smoking on sight, conscious, mood, truthfulness and creativity. They had also worked on “BETA” signals to check the impacts of smoking on intelligence and memory. They won a gold medal for securing 1st position.
