In order to bridge the
communication gap, to understand the emotional and psychological needs of young
children and to achieve better results in educational activities, Modernage
regularly organizes Parent - Teacher Meetings in the college. In the current
session one such meeting was organized on 22nd May. The meeting started with
the recitation of the “Holy Quran” by Master Hamid Raza of Class 9 followed by
Naat by Master Usman also from Class 9.
Ms. Mehar-un-Nisa, the Academic Coordinator of the Boys College, briefed the
participants of the meeting about the recent changes in the academic policies
of Modernage. She discussed the new books of English and Math for Class VI and
VII, the Monthly Tests format introduced recently and the stress on concept
building and inquiry based approach adopted in Modernage. This presentation was
followed by a briefing of the Co-curricular activities planned for this session
in Modernage by Mr Riaz-ur-Rehman. He requested the parents to co-operate with
the college in organizing these activities by supporting the children.
In this
PTM, Mr. Muhammad Tasadduq Hussain from COMSATS Abbotabad was invited to give a
briefing about the use of “FACEBOOK” by youngsters. He said that although
Facebook is a good means of sharing updates with family and friends but it has
become a social menace as well. People at the other end hide their identities
and play with the psychology of young boys and girls. These adverse effects are
much more prevalent in our society because most of the parents even if they are
computer literate, are totally unaware of the extent of vulnerability of their
children on the facebook. He suggested that parents should learn how to use the
facebook so that they can discuss its effects openly with their children. He
also said that the timings for using the facebook should be fixed and the
computer should not be placed in secluded areas of the house. During the
discussion, the parents also asked questions.
The last item of the PTM was a
discussion by Ms Aatika Salam on the difference between a team and a gang. She
said that a team means a group of people whose objectives are clear and
identifiable. To achieve these objectives all the members of the team
co-operate with each other and they believe in the development of positive
activities which play an important role in the progress of an individual or an
organization. On the other hand a gang is a group of people who are involved in
illegal and negative activities, whose objectives are unclear and the members
of the gang lack mutual co-operation and discipline. Mrs. Aatika Salam forced
parents to make sure that their children are in safe company so that we may
avoid the dangers in which youngsters put themselves into. At the end of the
PTM, Mr. Abdul Wahid Mir, Principal of Modernage thanked the parents of the
students. He stressed the role of parents in building an environment of trust
and mutual cooperation between the school and the home for better upbringing of
the children.
